A sprawling new expansion will bring three fully realized wizarding world lands to Yas Island, with builders aiming to wrap construction by 2029.

Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi is getting a dramatic wizarding makeover. Miral, the Abu Dhabi-based developer behind the indoor theme park, announced today that three new Harry Potter-themed lands will be added as part of a major expansion: one set to grow the park’s overall footprint by more than 50 percent.

The new additions carry names every fan will recognize: Diagon Alley, Hogwarts, and the Forbidden Forest. Together, they’ll cover approximately 63,000 square metres (about 678,000 square feet) of new park space, with construction targeted for completion in 2029. No official opening date has been announced yet.

Miral is developing the project in partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Experiences, and says the expansion will include world-exclusive Harry Potter rides built specifically for the Abu Dhabi park, meaning attractions fans won’t find anywhere else in the world, not even at Universal Studios.

Part of a Bigger Yas Island Expansion

The Harry Potter lands are just one piece of a larger overhaul of Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi on Yas Island. The expansion also folds in two previously announced DC-themed attractions, Kryptonite Collider and Superman Up and Away. Combined, all of the new additions will add around 70,000 square metres (roughly 753,478 square feet) of theme park space.

Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi currently features six immersive lands and is billed by Miral as the region’s largest indoor theme park, a title this expansion looks set to reinforce.

Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, chairman of Miral, framed the announcement as more than just a theme park update, tying it to Abu Dhabi’s broader tourism and economic ambitions:

“The introduction of the three new Harry Potter-themed lands represents a significant milestone in the continued evolution of Yas Island and the emirate of Abu Dhabi.”

Simon Robinson, president of Global Experiences and Studio Operations at Warner Bros. Discovery, echoed that sentiment, pointing to the expansion as proof of the company’s investment in franchise-driven destinations:

“The expansion of Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi represents a significant step forward in our commitment to building world-class destinations anchored in the strength of our storytelling.”

From One Land to Three

Miral and Warner Bros. Discovery first teased a Harry Potter-themed land at the park back in November 2022, describing it at the time as a single large-scale addition. This latest announcement significantly raises the stakes, confirming not one but three distinct lands, and giving fans their first look at exactly which corners of the wizarding world are coming to life on Yas Island.

With Diagon Alley, Hogwarts, and the Forbidden Forest all in the works, Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious Harry Potter attractions outside of Universal’s dedicated parks.
