Pottermore Publishing has teamed up with Hoopla Digital to release a brand-new iconographic eBook edition of Christmas at Hogwarts through public libraries this fall. The announcement was made ahead of the American Library Association Annual Conference & Exhibition, running June 25–29 in Chicago.
The title, inspired by Harry Potter’s very first Christmas at Hogwarts, as told in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, will be available exclusively through Hoopla’s library platform in this new interactive format, meaning it won’t be sold in traditional retail channels.
A new format designed for young readers
Unlike a standard eBook, the iconographic format pairs professional narration and ambient sound with animated visual storytelling techniques such as pan-and-scan movement, designed to keep younger and early-stage readers engaged. The aim is to create a shared reading experience for families, with the warmth and magic of Hogwarts at Christmas as the backdrop.
“Offering familiar stories in new formats can help longtime fans reconnect with stories they grew up with while also encouraging reading and discovery among younger generations experiencing Harry Potter for the first time.”
— Brad Rose, Vice President of Content Strategy, Hoopla Digital
Pottermore Publishing’s Managing Director, Jennie McCann, echoed that sentiment, highlighting the role libraries play in making the Wizarding World accessible to new audiences: “We particularly hope it creates opportunities for younger audiences to discover the magic of Harry Potter’s first Christmas at Hogwarts.“
Instant access through your library card
One of Hoopla’s signature advantages is its no-holds, no-waitlist model. Once the title goes live this fall, any patron of a participating library will be able to borrow Christmas at Hogwarts immediately with a valid library card, via the Hoopla app on Android or iOS, or at hoopladigital.com.
That matters more than it might seem: Harry Potter titles remain among the most in-demand content on the platform. According to Hoopla, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone ranked as the fifth most popular eBook and audiobook on the service in 2025, meaning demand for new Wizarding World content through libraries is very real.
