Season 1 of Harry Potter hasn’t even aired yet, but we already know quite a bit about the second season.
Although Season 2 was officially announced on 6 May 2026, we knew that it was already being written. But we’ve learnt that Jon Brown, a writer on Season 1, has been promoted to co-showrunner alongside Francesca Gardiner.
Casting
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is set to begin production this autumn with the Season 1 cast returning. Well, not quite all of them. Gracie Cochrane will not be reprising her role as Ginny Weasley “due to unforeseen circumstances”.
We should therefore expect an announcement regarding her replacement, as well as brand-new roles such as Moaning Myrtle, Tom Riddle, Arthur Weasley, Professor Lockhart and Dobby.
Although Lucius Malfoy only appeared in the second book, we already know who will play him, as he features in Season 1: Johnny Flynn.
Another major new addition is Colin Creevey: casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann are actively searching for a young actor to fill the role, with auditions already underway and recalls reportedly taking place. Given that the character appears in six of the seven novels, the actor selected could remain part of the series for years to come.
According to rumours, casting for Sir Patrick Delaney-Podmore is currently underway as of 20 May 2026, alongside the Masons and Mr Borgin. This confirms three scenes:
- The Headless Hunt
- The Masons at the Dursley home
- The Malfoys at Borgin and Burkes
Production & Release
Season 2 is expected to go into production after a short break following Season 1, with filming set to begin this autumn in the UK. A potential release in December 2027 has been discussed. However, no official release date or window for Season 2 has been announced by HBO, and the 2027 timing remains unconfirmed.
Keep an eye on this page – it’ll be magically updated as soon as we have more information!
