The wait is over.

Following the release of the first official image by HBO, the first official trailer for the upcoming Harry Potter HBO series has finally been released, offering fans their first glimpse into this ambitious new adaptation of the beloved wizarding world.

The trailer dropped on March 25th, just hours after HBO teased the reveal with a single, atmospheric image and a one-word caption: “Tomorrow.” The promise was kept.

What the trailer reveals

The newly released trailer sets the tone for what appears to be a faithful yet visually refreshed take on the original story. Rather than leaning entirely on nostalgia, the series seems to embrace a much darker atmosphere, reminiscing of Game of Thrones.

The Dursleys seem more menacing from the very first seconds of the trailer. We also got to see Hogwarts: the sets are phenomenal and far more detailed than those in the films.

The production design immediately stands out, with the costumes, hinting at a more grounded and cinematic approach.

Meet the new cast

One of the most anticipated aspects of the series was the introduction of a brand-new cast and the trailer does not disappoint.

We get our first look at:

  • Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter
  • Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger
  • Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley

Notably, Nick Frost, who takes on the role of Hagrid, appears briefly as well as Dumbledore and McGonagall, giving fans a glimpse of this iconic character in the new adaptation. But it was also our first look at Paapa Essiedu as Professor Snape and he looks incredible!

Variety has shared new glimpses of characters in scenes not featured in the trailer: Severus Snape, Albus Dumbledore, Draco Malfoy and more.

A new chapter for the Wizarding World

The HBO series is set to be a long-form adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s seven novels, with each book reportedly getting its own season, a format that promises far more fidelity to the source material than the original film series, which inevitably had to make cuts.

The project was first officially announced by HBO and Warner Bros. Discovery, with Francesca Gardiner attached as showrunner and Mark Mylod directing. The ambition has always been clear: this is not a quick reboot, but a decade-long commitment to the world of Hogwarts.

For a generation that grew up with the books and the films, this trailer marks a genuine milestone, the first confirmation that this new vision is real, and that it is coming.

What’s next

With this first official look, HBO has officially kicked off the next chapter of Harry Potter. If the full series lives up to what this trailer promises, we may be in for a magical return unlike anything seen before.

The HBO Harry Potter series is expected to premiere in Christmas 2026. Stay tuned for full coverage.
